AWS does seem to like to hide their costs... looks to be around $9 / month per instance. That's still cheaper than DigitalOcean's equivalent service at $10 / month
@yetitaxxi If it's just for friends and family, masto.host will provide managed hosting of Mastodon for 5 EUR / month, so even cheaper. Of course, it means less ability to play around with the system. ;)
@yetitaxxi There is also a good cloud hosting comparison here: https://www.webstack.de/blog/e/cloud-hosting-provider-comparison-2017/
Interesting are also the corresponding HN comments, which also add some new suggestions: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13798023
@arx Interesting! As it happens, DigitalOcean just announced their object Storage and have an early access signup that grants 1TB free until the end of October. I'll definitely keep those other ones in mind though - thanks for the link!
https://www.digitalocean.com/products/storage/object-storage/ Hmmmmm that looks like a good deal though. Especially if I want to start up my own Mastodon instance for my friends
