For odd reasons I’m reading Drucker’s Concept of the Corporation (1946).
What he explains well is that in a culture trained to view job and economic advancement as the only source of dignity, inevitably the majority would experience corporate working life as demoralising.
I think we could have paid more attention to this bit.
@katebowles if everyone gets advancement, then it is meaningless.
if not everyone gets advancement (the traditional pyramid management model), then the majority will be demotivated and demoralised.
i agree with you. unfortunately it's the people at the top of the pyramid - the most myopic by nature of their position - who make the decisions :(
