Ext4 is better if an your apps are using single read/write threads & smaller files, while XFS kicks ass when apps use multiple read/write threads & larger files.
In a home-computer setting - I'd go ext4, unless you're setting up a huge shared array (streaming stuff), in which case I'd say XFS .
