this multi device tracking shit is getting out of hand. Wife discusses going to Disneyland. She does one search on my laptop and now my twitter feed is littered with Disneyland ads. Fuck this shit, I'm deleting chrome.
@twistedonion Yes. Delete Chrome AND twitter. Yuck!
@Averly thing is I do find twitter useful. Mastodon is awesome and I hope it never gains the traction of twitter. It's a more intelligent space. Twitters good for general local news alerts.
@twistedonion I can agree with that 😊
@twistedonion Welcome to the world of filter bubbles. mistakenly open a porn site. Spotify ads show condoms advertisement
@VictorXLR tell me about it, spent all day in analytics for client websites. Shocking how much info gets gathered.
@twistedonion opened my laptop cookies in sublime text. They had everything on me.even clearing history doesn't work i immediately got a VPN and i removed chrome
@VictorXLR it really is getting so invasive. VPN is def the route I'm considering going down at home. Any recommendations?
@twistedonion I stopped using my picture in any social network when i realized that you can now google search a picture. too many things involved and i dont want anyone knowing my details from a google search
Anyway i use Private internet access. i mostly use it for streaming Netflix to get American TV shows. they are really cheap but eventually its a risk cus we dont know who is running it.
with time u get used to it, just clear your cookies regularly and be careful online
thx. It's a fine balance isn't it. Dark times ahead on and offline unfortunately.
I will end up dropping my profile pic, did the same thing on twitter. Use it at the start as an identifier for the people I start to follow then drop it after a bit. It's a nice space here right now. Getting all nostalgic, but like everything good it won't last.
@twistedonion try the brave browser maybe
@noiseofstudio yes it's awesome, I love it. Chrome is going in the trash!
@twistedonion I'd say a blackhole DNS is a more thorough solution, though it breaks some sites (e.g. wait for ads timeout on YouTube before video starts playing
@noiseofstudio thanks for that, this is something I've never heard of, some reading required!
Should have said the twitter feed on my phone, not laptop.
