What I imagine about local timeline is that it gathers toots from my area, but apparently not??? I'm in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and yet the local timeline loads toots from San Fransisco.

@tentooed I think local timeline only applies to users registered and logged on from instances that are not mastodon.social.
For example, I'm registered and logged into octodon.social. My local timeline shows me only toots made by usrs registered here.
The federated timeline shows me toots from octodon.social and mastodon.social. In theory it would show toots from any instance that octodon.social chooses to federate with.
@tentooed I think it just means local to the server/instance you chose. People can join those from anywhere. Some seem to be theme based but it doesn't have to be.
@tentooed It's a "local" timeline in that it's on the same server. Not the same country.
