@tcql @Ashoka Anecdotally, in the dozen or so things I've kickstarted/patreon'd, I've been very pleased with the finished product. I just had a whole bunch of stuff I kickstarted over the last few years come due in the span of a month, so it feels like surplus of cool stuff.

@tcql @Ashoka it's sad that monetization has become a dirty word... but the % people willing to pay *directly* for services on teh Interwebz is so low that nothing network-effect-dependent could work that way

please don't be too infatuated with these platforms. They are still capitalist and thus extract value from the work of others.

I'm not saying the model is bad, just that I would prefer to stay critic about them, since we need more community driven alternatives to those.
