Protip: Takfiri Salafists, I call them that because they engage in excommunicating Muslims, i.e. calling Muslims “kuffar”.

They do this so that they can justify killing them, enslaving them, etc.

Also, they hate the Shi'a and Ahmadi Muslims, and god help you if you're Sufi in any way.

They'll even kill religious scholars who disagree with them.

You'll hear the term “Khawarij” used on them, because, yes, they're first group who did this sort of shit.

These people are different from, say, Hezbollah and groups financed by Iran. Iran is Shi'a. Sunnis want to kill Shi'a. As a result, there are Shi'as who respond with violence and warfare.

Assad is an ally to the Iranians, but mostly because he fights Sunni groups like Da'esh.

The biggest Sunni group that “finances” Sunni extremism is… the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Which is a creation of the British, and are staunch American and UK allies.

Please note that these are SIMPLIFICATIONS, and even I get the details wrong, because I'm far from the conflict.

While Islam originated from the Middle East, the biggest Muslim population isn't there.

It's in Indonesia.

Our regional and security concerns are slightly different. But inter-related.

I saw “we”, because I'm referring to not only 🇮🇩, 🇲🇾, 🇸🇬, 🇹🇭 and 🇵🇭.

We have regional security concerns that overlap with each other, and have more in common with each other than the Middle East.

But we're not isolated from that. For example, Abu Sayyaf, a terror / kidnap group that operates on 🇵🇭 and 🇲🇾 borders, has pledge allegiance to Da'esh.
