now, say the teleporter took those atoms and their placements, and gathered more to duplicate the ingredients. then it recreated TWO me’s. am i in control of both? has another consciousness been created? are we just soulless machines? no different than a super complex program?

@taiz am i still the same me who started this thread? or did i just come into existence? will i disappear in a few moments? is there any point in living at all then, if it’s all for nothing?

@taiz yes, we are soulless machines. souls are something people tell themselves when they think about this too hard and need a nicer answer.

@taiz philosophical question: yes it's you, any copy if you is you if you're the one thinking it, but you are only you in the instant

technical question: there are two ways of teleportation
- you physically move one objet through a wormhole (which is for now practically impossible)
- you have to copy and destroy the original

@CobaltVelvet in this sense i suppose you could break it down into atoms and send those through some underground pipe and recreate them, i suppose that would still be me

@taiz you could take any atom really if you got that kind of technology

you just need to recreate the brain with, uh, extreme precision

which is not something i'd try myself
