This is the nerd-swastika. I know this isn't subtext, it's someone who wasn't offended by HydraCap thinking this would be a fun callback. I have made my displeasure known in several mediums, including the official feedback survey.
I have recommended they take any extras from this year and send them directly to a recycler. Otherwise, they'll be re-used next year because that's how non-profits work.
They shouldn't have spent money on it at all. Losing the sunk cost is a risk-minimization strategy, worth the expense.
