RSS is undead?

I want to backhand the author of this article for the following:

"It’s wonderfully idealistic, but the reality of RSS is that it lacks the features required by nearly every actor in the modern content ecosystem, and I would strongly suspect that its return is not forthcoming."

He's basically saying that RSS is undead because nobody can make money off it. That's not what RSS is for, you fucking dolt!

@starbreaker I saw someone else share this and they mentioned that pretty much every news site and Wordpress blog uses RSS, including TechCrunch itself

@starbreaker It is what publishers are for, though, so they might not be interested in investing in what seems to be a fundamentally flawed protocol to them.

@maho They don't need to invest in it. The tech works, and if they build on platforms like WordPress then they're already emitting RSS.

@starbreaker Right. And they get the compensation for their work out of RSS ... how exactly, given it does not support either tracking or any reliable monetiazion scheme?

Also, which reputable non-hobbyist publisher uses Wordpress?

@starbreaker Right. So they decide not to offer an RSS feed - and thus, RSS as a protocil goes the way of the Gopher. Which is equally undead (even though there still are a few servers out there). *sic transit gloria mundi*

@starbreaker The many feeds I have in spaRSS beg to differ. And I agree, it's not about making money. If it was then there's plenty of other technologies that are "undead."
