I'm glad I deleted my account months ago. Delete yours today. Don't @ me if you're just gonna say "muh friends and family".

@starbreaker Oh hell yeah! I am 3 months facebook free. One of the best decisions that I've ever made.

@starbreaker Deleted my FB account also. But it's also good to give friends and family information about more ethical alternatives.

FB will be truly doomed if I can get my mom and her friends to migrate here or to something like this: diasp.org/

@ekansa @starbreaker if I can get my parents to migrate here, *I* will be truly doomed

@starbreaker I will do, as soon as I get an accessible alternative. 😟

@starbreaker Deleted mine in 2010. Funnily enough, it was a South Park episode that triggered me to do it. Privacy concerns came afterwards.

@starbreaker I have a long dormant account that I'm going to post to for the last time this weekend, with contact details and such. After a week, I'll delete the account, and commence with an un-clouding process (Facebook, Twitter, and Google, at least), and a consolidation of my internet presence. I think it's time.

@kevinja @starbreaker I reeeeeeeaaaaally need to get rid of all my Google accounts :\ anyone know of a similar platform where one can collaborate with people on documents/spreadsheets/etc?

@ajdonovan2k @kevinja Nothing that isn't proprietary shit. Can you teach your colleagues to use git?

@ajdonovan2k @starbreaker Yeah, Google is going to be the hardest to untether from, for sure. I have a GMail, a Google music account (which my kids use), I watch a fair bit of YouTube, and I am a sometimes Android developer.

As far as office docs go, you're right - they've choked the air out of the competition on that market too. I don't know of anything that works as well as Google Docs for collaboration.

@kevinja @starbreaker I mostly use Fastmail now for email, and already use DDG, StartPage and FireFox for interneting. But yeah, drive/docs/etc will be hard to replace - especially when most people aren't going to want to switch services.

@starbreaker I love not knowing what my family is doing. Facebook is designed to make you think everyday actions of people you rarely interact with are important.
@feld @starbreaker Facebook intentionally withholds notifications and slowly releases them to you over time to keep you addicted and interacting with their terrible service.

@feld Worse than that, Facebook is a preview of Hell: a high school reunion that never ends.

@starbreaker totally. I don't have any interest in my highshool classmates lives. As I've learned without Facebook they're rapists (seriously), Nazis, and pedophiles (one became girls sports coach and started having sex with them. He's 32.)
