After reading this, I want to figure out how to get my OpenBSD machines' consoles to display orange text on a black background. They currently do white on black.
Orange on black might not be as aesthetic as the shades of blue currently popular, but it's better for nighttime work.

@calyanare I'd love to emulate that effect on my Thinkpad without running X11.
@starbreaker
There may be better solutions, but you can tweak the ANSI palette for wscons in /sys/dev/rasops/rasops.c
This indeed implies a custom built kernel.
(Dont mind the gradient I have a shitty camera)
@julianaito I suppose a custom kernel is the next logical step since I'm already running -CURRENT, but I'll save that as a last resort. Thanks!
@starbreaker @julianaito This actually leads to the question - should amber consoles become the default? It's definitely a good trend we're seeing in tech now.
When I was a kid one of the first computers I programmed had an amber display so I'd be a big fan.
@starbreaker I remember visiting my mom at work in the '80s and they had amber-on-black terminals on their desks. I like to think they knew something about eyestrain, but I guess it's more likely that this was just on account of amber being the "futuristic" color back then.
