I've tried to assume that the GNOME developers have good reason for removing features, hiding configuration in gconf or the tweak tool, or making core gnome-shell functionality dependent on JavaScript-based extensions.
But removing the ability to run executable files from the file mangler has me thinking that GNOME developers honestly believe that their primary user story is a precocious toddler who needs adult supervision and can't be trusted with real Unix.

I find #Cinnamon very good. Both user friendly and not dumbed-down. #Xfce is my go-to for lean-and-mean machines. It has some quirks, but I know them pretty well, so I guess it's the old and comfortable coat...
