Is an Octodon what Sleipnir would have been had the Norse warriors existed a few tens of thousands of years earlier and used tamed Mammoths as mounts?
Cuz I can totally see Odin riding an eight legged mastodon into battle, Gungnir gleaming in his hand as his Valkyries ride flying mammoths to retrieve the souls of dead cave man type Norse warriors.
