CONTROVERSIAL OPINION/CONFESSION: I've never watched Firefly and I have no desire to do so despite the many people in my circle who have told me that it'd be my type of show. Something about the show has just always felt off with me.
@anthracite I mean, it's cool for people to like that thing that I don't like but I don't know, just not my vibe.
*shrugs*
@sonicbooming Eh, nobody has to like everything. #Firefly manged to use a lot of #orientalist trappings (fashion, casual Chinese phrases) without having any actual Asian actors and a #western motif that has our sympathetic protagonists basically map to the Confederates after the US Civil War. There's also some weird stuff around the pseudo-geisha character. I could see any of that feeling off. (I mean I'm a fan but I don't need anyone else to share my taste.)
@sonicbooming like what you like, pal....or don't... it's all good....
@MissSnarkerson That's the philosophy I've started to embrace the last few years. I don't mind when other people enjoy things. Just let me enjoy mine. You can criticize my thing and I can do the same for yours, it's all good and fair. Just do you doing you. :)
@sonicbooming exaaaaaaactly!!!!
@sonicbooming I kinda love Firefly, but there are some really messed-up things about it. It's definitely a problematic fave for me. So no judgment here. (I mean, there wouldn't be anyway, but I don't think you're wrong about this one.)
@sonicbooming There is a Seattle-area cafe run by Firefly fans. They have drinks named after various SF things. Model spaceships hang from the ceiling.
Every time I go in there they have the same damn 80s rock playlist going.
Yeah. Just... something slightly off.
