I wish more people would understand that Free Software is about the users' freedom and not the developer's.
@sathariel Pleroma is Free Software. In fact, it's licences under the AGPL which means that you are required to publish every change you made to your personal instance, even if you just modified the CSS.

@sathariel @acuteanniemay While the (A)GPL can be overzealous, for software like Pleroma or Mastodon it;s the right choice. (also, I assume you also believe it's wrong for companies to stop you from modifying or reversing it, right?)

In an ideal world neither would exist, but we don't live in that world.

@samis @acuteanniemay @sathariel Agree that sometimes the AGPL is the wrong choice, but there are some cases where it is exactly the right one. Also, the term "intellectual property" is best avoided as it makes a comparison that's at best stretched and at worst completely wrong. Copyrights and patents were never intended to be perpetual. Same for trademarks once the brand is no longer active, actually.
