Yo @precatlady @ekansa @captain_primate @Electricarchaeo @steko guess who just entered the fediverse: @sebhth
@paregorios @sebhth @steko @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady
I'm wondering what it would take to move more conversations from Twitter over to this channel.
@ekansa @paregorios @sebhth @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady I have the impression that linking to Mastodon discussions from Twitter could help, together with daily regular use by the "usual suspects" that engage in conversations (after all, most interesting threads are sparked by serendipity)
@steko @ekansa @paregorios @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady I'm going to try a "fediverse first" approach for a week or so at least. It will come with visibility cost, no doubt, but we have to start somewhere.
@sebhth @precatlady @captain_primate @Electricarchaeo @ekansa @steko
Yeah, this is what I've been trying the last couple of weeks.
@paregorios @steko @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady @sebhth we seem to be getting a critical mass on this platform, so perhaps it can work?
@paregorios @steko @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady @sebhth
I've been doing tedious data cleanup stuff since the SAA conference. That and went to a big open washing event with Google and Cyark.
I'm boring.
Anyone else doing anything interesting?
@ekansa @paregorios @steko @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady get me through next 9 days, aka end of term. But I can say I'm now a huge holoviews for python dataviz fan. That's a side effect of teaching.
@sebhth @paregorios @steko @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady
I wanted to play with this (http://holoviews.org), but haven't had a chance. What are you doing with it? Are your finding it better than other #datavis frameworks?
@paregorios @steko @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady @ekansa
I put a bit of hv code online at https://github.com/sfsheath/amphitheaters-holoviews-folium/blob/master/amphitheaters-holoviews-folium.ipynb . To get full effect, click through on links in first cell to see rendered HTML for the viz and map (which is folium). This is a cleaned-up version of a longer notebook I used in class.
tl;dr: using '+' and '*' to combine outputs is wicked cool if you ignore the annoying config mechanism for hv.
@sebhth @paregorios @steko @Electricarchaeo @captain_primate @precatlady
Oh!
That is neat! Very dynamic and useful!
