We're finalising texts for the + catalog; because my text construction requires that each paragraph stays at exactly 108 words, I gave Google Translate a go - holy moly, that engine has become scarily good, you can almost copy + paste the output with only minor corrections. (We use proper translators for the other texts)

@sciss You think? I find it pretty poor (or hilarious) for anything other than single sentences that have no ambiguity. Hofstadter recently did a nice write-up on this: theatlantic.com/technology/arc

@KnowPresent Obivously its not very creative, call it shallow, but it's quite accurate capturing the meaning even with long and nested sentences. A few years back and you could just use it to get a raw idea of the meaning. Perhaps it's only the to-english that works so well. I bet they threw some large NN at it,
