@tcql Also because the tech industry consists primarily of smart, open-minded people and requires intrinsic motivation and the army is a bastion of dysfunctional people with a hierarchical system based on the threat of punishment and violence.
Doing mandatory military service (instead of civil service) after working in academic security research was the worst choice of my life, as you could probably guess by now ;)
