I really have little sympathy for Macron, but I have a little bit of hope that his promise to "rally" all the French is not his "poudre de perlimpimpin" and that he will be listening the strong-left leaning French people and politicians, and that he'll be keen to social justice progress. A very, very little hope that may just dissapear in the days following his inaugurations depending to whatever the fuck he decides to do with the country.
@Siphonay Does the president actually have that much power in day-to-day politics in France? Around here, it's mostly a representative position plus some important, but rarely used powers - chief commander over the military, could veto laws, force new elections or choose not to accept a government. All of them are reserved for extraordinary situations.
@redacted Yes, when he as the majority in the parliament, the president is very powerful. He can make decisions about pretty much anything.
He also has two articles of the constitution that he can use :
-One that permits him to pass a law without it getting reviewed by the parliament and the senate
-One that permits him to take the full power
The first one has been used many times, the second one was used once by De Gaulle.
There is a reason why we talk about "the presidential monarchy" :/
