One of the things I appreciate about Mastodon is that the admins actually enforce humane standards of behavior.

@pzmyers Nazis are fine, but god forbid your preferred name not match the one on your driver's license.

@pzmyers Actually, Didi Delgado (co-founder of BLM Cambridge) did a great piece on further Facebook double-standards, let me did that up.

@pzmyers @tobascodagama Good find. Only crit is that Facebook moderation is broadly right-wing, not *only* white supremacist (though of course it is white supremacist). Leftist users and pages get banned on any pretext, not only for challenging white supremacy.

@gcupc @pzmyers I think at least one part of that phenomenon is just that the right-wing coordinates reporting. So leftist/anti-white supremacist users and pages don't just get one or a handful of reports, they get a flood.

@pzmyers @tobascodagama that *may* be a big part of it, but I don't think it can be all of it. I have participated in big, organized left wing reporting raids on alt right meme pages, and gotten bupkis in terms of results. Either the way the moderators react to mass reports differs based on the target, or alt-right bulk reporting is much better organized than I think it is.

@pzmyers it's amazing what you can do once ads and money are out of the equation.

@pzmyers Re: "The culture we have..." Well said sir.

@pzmyers agreed 100%. not all admins are on the same page on all of the issues, but i'm happy that many have coalesced around the same concerns regarding harassment, hate speech, various -isms that make people feel less safe and less welcome, etc.
