but, again, i have quite a fair bit of privilege and i haven't been burned by harassment like some people have been. at the end of the day, i can shake my head and be unhappy with admins for blanket-banning entire nodes but also i haven't really experienced the worst of twitter. they probably feel like they have damn good reasons to blocklist people, and are paranoid that trolls will try to climb their walls and attack.
well, that hasn't been my experience out here. but i've been kind of a neutral-ish scout, on a single person instance that isn't worth the effort. people out here will laugh at you, probably, but concerted trolling efforts likely won't happen and if they do i think the fediverse will have your back.
@KitRedgrave I don't see why Mastodon can't have all the features for both a highly curated, safe, anti-harassment instance and a wild west, zero moderation instance. The division baffles me.
@KitRedgrave Instances need to be as transparent as possible about what kind of space they're trying to create. It's good that that seems to be happening more and most accounts are young, so account migration isn't too painful.
@pybyte It can totally be either one, depending on how your admin(s) want to run it. It's very difficult to impossible to make an instance work the other way if you don't agree with it, and so far the best answer has been to just move elsewhere. but you can't easily move your posts over, and you can only kind of move your follows over
