You can understand a perspective and still make an ethical judgement. I understand the religious circumstances that led to The Inquisition. It's still wrong.

The problem is her wording because I think it's a good faith argument. When you attribute horror at human sacrifice mainly to a colonialist gaze, it comes incredibly close to justifying it.
@dulcet @delores @moonman @pybyte I think a clarification that *we* should be horrified, they clearly were not would go a long way here.

I think her point is not that it wasn't barbaric, its that the culture that surrounded it has been so completely lost that we have no way of truly understanding it and how they felt about it.
