If you sign up via an instance does that give you a global log in/username?
@princessfluffy global username yes, login no. People on other instances would find you by looking for username@[youinstance]
@princessfluffy Pretty sure the other instances don't even know you exist until you respond to / interact with a user from that instance.
@oneoffsuit You can view all instanced in the federated timeline.
@timvb @oneoffsuit Federated timeline is more like a "friends of friends" feed. It's everyone on your instance, plus all of their follows.
@princessfluffy No, only from that instance. However, you can view the federated timeline from any instance. It's different, but I like it. The only issue is that if whomever admins your instance decides to quit for whatever reason you will need to register via a new instance.
@princessfluffy No. Your username is unique to your instance, although you can talk to people on different instances.
@princessfluffy I'm still confused about that myself
@princessfluffy nope. Username is specific to instance
