I haven't used Duolingo is ages, but I see everyone talking about courses and start dates...is it no longer a learn-at-your-own-pace thing?

#Duolingo is very much a learn-at-your-own-pace thing for me. Maybe it depends on the language, and the popular ones have what you describe. (I'm learning Romanian.)
