#Twitter has recently started inserting other people's "likes" into my timeline, breaking up their reverse-chronological TL. Apparently, there is no way to stop this.

I don't get it. I follow a lot of people on the birdsite, because I want to read their tweets and retweets. My TL is always very busy. I don't need Twitter to provide me with additional random tweets.

Does anybody know why they are doing this?

It is something G+ does since a long time and many people find it abhorrent. So why not copy it?

(I believe the idea is that it gives more content to people with a small social circle, which is many. People with many connections suffer more because they get more like/+1 floated posts.)
