How slooooow can you go?
-Me, setting up a brand new Win10 computer for a customer

Seriously, users out there. Is it always this painful to use? I've been sitting in front of this brand new Dell all-in-one (customer's purchase) for an hour just trying to get the basics set up and everything is lagging horribly because of all the background updates.
How is that acceptable to normal people?

@notjustbill
When I had to reset a couple of Windows machines recently, it didn't take nearly that long. The slow bit was killing off all the telemetry and data sharing possible.

@dumpling I guess the biggest slowdown this time was prying the pre-installed McAfee off the machine, but I still can't remember the last time Ibsat down at a Win PC that just worked. (And as a copier tech I'm usually just installing printer drivers, not fixing PC issues)

@notjustbill
I hate dealing with pre-installed stuff like that. It slows everything down, hopefully the rest wasn't so bad. I do find it's a bit quicker getting a Linux machine up and running, between crapware on Windows or just adjusting a bunch of obscure settings.

@dumpling I agree, unfortunately no one I get to deal with uses Linux, if they even know what it is.
On the upside, at least I had a helper, a curious little Siamese kitten with the biggest thumbs I've ever seen. Wasn't able to take any pictures though

@notjustbill I use Windows 10 at my day job. It's even worse when you're stuck with a machine that has most of its knobs locked by corporate IT. It's only tolerable because I get paid to put up with it.

@starbreaker @notjustbill Latest "update" ate four hours of my day.

On the bright side, I now have a dedicated folder that won't go away in which to store the output of the cheapass 3D Paint thing that I haven't been using since MS released it.

@DaveHiggins @starbreaker I hope it at least comes with a bunch of sample images you'll never open and also can't delete

@notjustbill @starbreaker Fairly certain I saw a blocky torus and some sort of U-shaped thing when I accidentally opened the wrong folder.

@starbreaker @notjustbill If it were 'Umr A-Tawil, I might be pleased.

However, I suspect MS is one of the darker avatars.
