If there's a bug report or other such forum for this, I can chime in.

The inline video player has a pretty minimal aesthetic, so trimming that down to just the player bar for audio seems fairly straightforward.

I've noticed that when folk post Spotify or other such links they get a nice inline player widget. Perhaps we could borrow the aesthetic from that for audio uploads?

@nivex the Spotify widget is delivered via their oembed, so not available to our use, unfortunately.

@nivex unfortunately, with the current project management structure, it seems unlikely that this will go anywhere this time any more than it has over the past year, but I do wish you the best of luck getting Eugen to change his mind. Gods know I've tried.

@djsundog If I knew how to code it, or knew someone who does, I'd say write it and submit a PR. Working code is a lot harder to ignore.

That said, I've read the rationale in the referenced issue report and I agree with the other commenters that it seems to be a double-standard.

Maybe we need an open Soundcloud-alike that can deliver an oembed back for times like this?

@nivex I considered wrapping it up as a separate PR for tootsuite but to be honest it would make me angrier with every passing day it languished unmerged and I don't like setting myself up to get angry, particularly if I anticipate the anger to last for months or longer.

@djsundog And I have used ffmpeg on command line to make my own still-frame videos but the encoder gods were not appeased this evening.

@djsundog Ah, nice trick with the -map 0:a. Sadly if I try to upload such a .webm to a tootsuite/Mastodon instance I get a 500 Server Error.
