this might be better in the long run! but it's best to also acknowledge this is going to lead to a SHIT ton of grief and chaos as users conflict with instance owners and people jump ship and accuse each other of being shitty allies and etc. this place is "social justice eats itself" central and it's going to be crazy
@naxuu my hope is that we get a whole new class of problems like "me and my friend are on instances in different alliances so we can't talk to each other". Progress!
