Update: I still haven't decided where I'll land semi-permanently in the woolyverse but I'm happy for now hopping around between the couple of instances that I am most drawn to. I'd quit mastodon.social altogether, but unfortunately it doesn't seem like other instances pick up as many posts despite being technically connected via federation. Growing pains?
@Richard_ermen Cool. I'm excited for this thing to really start sizzling.
@myrrh I'm still not sure I understand the utility of being in a different instance. Is it just so you can follow the local timeline, or is there something else to it?
@Solobasssteve I know when I first signed on, mastodon.social was having some trouble handling the load. On principle, I like the idea of not putting too much control and not too much responsibility/cost in the hands of any one sysop.
Also, I like that the local timelines feel like little neighborhoods.
Also, federation doesn't appear to run flawlessly yet, so local toots from the users I folllow seem to more consistently show up than federated posts. That'll hopefully change.
@myrrh I live here now but am keeping my mastodon.social because it's a rare commodity currently and night be useful one day. I never check that one, though.
I like how the local feed is actually interesting and fun now; still never check the federated feed.
@tekniklr I mostly stick to checking the local feed because I feel a weird twinge of guilt every time I ask the server to retrieve the federated feed 😂
@myrrh Growing Pains.
