@ChristinaO I love that, too. It feels as if this place is full of real people, instead of commercial entities.
Also, it seems that most of the people on #Mastodon are being nice to one another. That means so much to me.
@ChristinaO Exactly. I hope Mastodon will be able to maintain this culture.
I read somewhere that having local admins on each instance, might be the key to it all. And maybe it is!
Are there other elements that have contributed? Does niceness beget more niceness?
I don't know, but I'm grateful for what we have here.
@mirabilis I love that admins who are open to growing their numbers are easy to find. Today I had the hot idea of joining the instances of the admins who are connecting with me.
And 25 yrs ago I wasn't a mom, so of course now I am unamused by the "all hackers are male, under 25, and wear hoodies and Mom needs help getting onto Facebook or building her Pinterest" stereotypes. I'm the only one who buys 2600 magazine in my house!! (Disclaimer: 25 years ago I was helping my mom onto the internet)
@mirabilis To me it is so reminiscent of an internet of 25 years ago, when people were more into using gopher, archie, veronica, and HTML only for presenting content, not so much for third-party trackers, browser-sniffing so Linux open-source browsers can be ignored or dismissed as "out-of-date", and loading on needless crap or virus-tainted ads slowing down or contaminating browsers
@ChristinaO Yes, yes, yes!
@mirabilis And when there's disagreement with ideas, the disagreement is respectful with facts and references! One of the best ways to open eyes and minds and hearts!
