I've been pondering on and off about a story setting where necromancy (in the raising the dead sense) is real and a major source of labor on that world.
The issue that some people have with necromancy in that setting is that it's disrespectful toward the dead ("honour your ancestors"), and not that it's a form of slavery, because they're convinced the dead are literally mindless puppets.
This feels really familiar to me, and I'm sure whether I read a short story about this before, or if I dreamed something similar.
