NTFS is a pretty optimistic (maybe even pretentious) thing to name a file system you're developing. "New Technology File System".
@kimdanes they called it that because it sounds better than NW95FS (Not Windows 95 Filesystem).
The entire OS is called NT, btw

@kimdanes NTFS was originally developed for Windows NT, and NT is Microsoft marketing-speak for "We did a half-assed job of re-implementing OpenVMS and replaced X Window with our own shitty GUI." :)
