Trying to get windows 7 to shrink the C: drive is like

Idk it's really hard though

It's been "working" on it for... 2 hours

@kimdanes I hope it's not a FAT volume

'cuz I've been there and it's hell

Kim @kimdanes

@arisunz nah it's ntfs. Tbh I'm not sure why fat would take a long time?

@kimdanes maybe it was just me, but I tried it once with gparted and it took all night for a 300~ Gb

And I had to repair the boot sector afterwards because I could not see the partition at all from Windows

In hindsight I probably fucked something else myself because I had little to no idea of what I was doing

@arisunz sounds like you were lucky. I did the same thing a week ago and hopelessly fucked the Windows partition (it worked out alright; I didn't really need Windows on that machine)

@arisunz @kimdanes
Speculation: since FAT and NTFS are prone to fragmentation, on resizing the filesystem it has to be defragmented to make room for data that was previously at the far end of the allocated space

@jordyd @arisunz I find it hilarious that MS didn't fix that for NTFS
