Any recommendations for museums and parks in ? I have two days. I love history and crafts. Close to Nipponbashi is better.

Whatโ€™s not to love about this?
So many people coming together to create Open Street Map. An app that allows me to download these maps and use them offline. The sheer number of restaurants. And out there it feels like about ten times more: isakayas one multiple levels of these buildings, both below ground and in the upper levels. There is ground level, the underground shopping and eateries, a motorway a bit further up, railways crossing, subways crossing. I love Asian mega cities.

The sad part is being alone in a mega city. Once you have eaten dinner, what are you going to do? Drink by yourself? I end up in my hotel room after a walk, ready for teeth brushing, shower, and one on one time with the laptop. And that feels weird. As is usual for me, by the third week Iโ€™m starting to miss my most favorite person in the world.

@tykayn Thanks! It was indeed delicious. ๐Ÿ˜€

@applecandy Not really. Tomorrow is the last last full day and on Saturday weโ€™re leaving early in the morning.

One would think that being in megacities is good for being a solo travel even if for a short while. I travel solo often (and occasionally with family and have very rare instance of being with friends). Eating out is generally a dilemma for a solo traveller where I usually tend to avoid evening crowds. Same with doing tours even if you are with people you generally just be on 'your own'.
Maybe you can check out Japanese baths / Japanese spas?
The tempura looks delicious though!

@hcs Iโ€™m at the end of a three week trip and we have done quite a few ryokans and and onsen. It really is just these last two days that i noticed with one family gone back to Nara and the other doing stuff I donโ€™t care about, so Iโ€™m left to my own devices.
I guess as a solo traveller Iโ€™ll also avoid the evening crowd. I just hadnโ€™t noticed because I rarely travel alone unless for business in which case the evenings are usually social occasions.

It's the reason why when I travel I usually cue it up with some sort of event or meetup. Although for the events (tech events) that I've been to in the past several months, I haven't done any social events.

I was going to try out a Japanese onsen last month but didn't have enough time! It's on my todo list. I love saunas/spas/etc. Best experience had been in Budapest at one of their hotels.

@hcs Hm, I hadnโ€™t considered looking at local events and signing up for something. Clearly I am not thinking ahead! Maybe next time.

I set up a 'Groups' thing here just for #Travel https://gnusocial.net/group/travel in case people want to break opsec and talk about where they are going to next :D But also as a way to meet up etc. Like, right now we use # to determine whether or not we are going to some conference or large tech event (ie ccc, fosdem, etc) but these are few/far in between.

I tried to do a call out (ie I'm at x for x dates want to meet for coffee) but it just doesn't work with noise-signal ratios these days.
re: My last comment about 'more of a shot implementing this'. Here's a discussion about Groups at https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/139

Looks like the ticket was reopened last year but not seen as a priority.

@hcs I see the one message there when I click the group URL but I canโ€™t seem to find it from my Mastodon client. Do you know why? I expect itโ€™s the same account, so the message should have federated? Oh well. Itโ€™s not too important as all I wanted to say is that I used to be chill about travel and these days I am nervous for days until Iโ€™m at the airport. From then on, Iโ€™m in travel mode. ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚๏ธ

I think the Groups URL could only be used for GNUSocial and GNUSocial accounts, but I sent the link as an example of what would be nice to see.

Yes, having it federated would definitely be awesome. It's been Dec 2017 since the last commit here and it seems that Mastodon (and Pleroma) would have more of a shot implementing this.

@kensanata When travelling, I usually take a book and go wandering around looking for interesting places to drink a beer or two and read a while. Often I just wind up just reading, but sometimes make new friends.

If there's night markets, I'll wander those once or twice a week, just because they're so amazing.

@MightyBigCar Yeah, thatโ€™s what I did for my evening stroll yesterday: an hour of Nipponbashi to collect some visuals. ๐Ÿ˜€ As I donโ€™t drink beer, and generally only drink alcohol with family members, I often look at places to sit and wonder: should I drink more tea or coffee? Sometimes I wish I could just go in, pay 500ยฅ and sit there drinking tap water and enjoy free WiFi. Sadly, that doesnโ€™t seem to exist.
