What’s not to love about this?
So many people coming together to create Open Street Map. An app that allows me to download these maps and use them offline. The sheer number of restaurants. And out there it feels like about ten times more: isakayas one multiple levels of these buildings, both below ground and in the upper levels. There is ground level, the underground shopping and eateries, a motorway a bit further up, railways crossing, subways crossing. I love Asian mega cities. #osaka
@kensanata anyway, bon appétit!
@tykayn Thanks! It was indeed delicious. 😀
@kensanata you out there for long?
@applecandy Not really. Tomorrow is the last last full day and on Saturday we’re leaving early in the morning.
@hcs I’m at the end of a three week trip and we have done quite a few ryokans and and onsen. It really is just these last two days that i noticed with one family gone back to Nara and the other doing stuff I don’t care about, so I’m left to my own devices.
I guess as a solo traveller I’ll also avoid the evening crowd. I just hadn’t noticed because I rarely travel alone unless for business in which case the evenings are usually social occasions.
@hcs Hm, I hadn’t considered looking at local events and signing up for something. Clearly I am not thinking ahead! Maybe next time.
@hcs Now I wish Mastodon had groups.
@hcs I see the one message there when I click the group URL but I can’t seem to find it from my Mastodon client. Do you know why? I expect it’s the same account, so the message should have federated? Oh well. It’s not too important as all I wanted to say is that I used to be chill about travel and these days I am nervous for days until I’m at the airport. From then on, I’m in travel mode. 🧘♂️
@kensanata When travelling, I usually take a book and go wandering around looking for interesting places to drink a beer or two and read a while. Often I just wind up just reading, but sometimes make new friends.
If there's night markets, I'll wander those once or twice a week, just because they're so amazing.
@MightyBigCar Yeah, that’s what I did for my evening stroll yesterday: an hour of Nipponbashi to collect some visuals. 😀 As I don’t drink beer, and generally only drink alcohol with family members, I often look at places to sit and wonder: should I drink more tea or coffee? Sometimes I wish I could just go in, pay 500¥ and sit there drinking tap water and enjoy free WiFi. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to exist.
The sad part is being alone in a mega city. Once you have eaten dinner, what are you going to do? Drink by yourself? I end up in my hotel room after a walk, ready for teeth brushing, shower, and one on one time with the laptop. And that feels weird. As is usual for me, by the third week I’m starting to miss my most favorite person in the world.
