@kensanata I'm interested and living there for already a year makes things easier.
The big issue I have right now (and is personal) is that Germany does not accept / recognize dual citizenship and I'm not really willing to renounce my own Australian citizenship.
I guess the next question is if citizenship is such a big deal and if so/if not at what factors. For example, there are British citizens living in Australia that have been permanent residents for many years and have not really bothered taking up Australian citizenship. Albeit, some recent changes last year had left people in this situation in a bad state of affairs though.
For me, I might be better off just trying to live in Ireland or somewhere in the EU that accepts dual nationality (along with other nice factors about the country) although as much as I love IE it's not where my head is right now :)

Yes, it's only for certain countries in the EU/Schweis, and they have some relaxed rules for Turkish and German nationals of a certain age.
If the political situation in Germany makes it looks like the dual nationality law allowance in the next ... 5 or 10 years that would be nice. I think that they can bring in more qualified immigrants if there is an allowance for dual even if you maintain the rules around language, knowledge of German culture, and so on.
From what I have read, many EU countries adopt this.
I guess it's a completely different situation with people looking to drop their original citizenships rather than get a new one.
I don't know enough about their situations (not being able to pay for colleges, etc). But yes, I have seen this floating around with people moving to other countries to avoid paying loans and debt.
it's sad to hear they feel that way.
In Australia, there is now a new law from last year where if you earn over a certain amount, you are required to a) declare it to the Australian Tax Office and b) pay the required amount for the loan. So Australians can't do this even if they wanted to, lol.
In addition there are also various tax related shifts for expats and property ownership.
