Is someone overexcitedly explaining things you already know? Consider this approach:
Swallow your ego, shut your goddamn mouth, and listen! Encourage them! There’s no point in shutting someone down because you’re bitter and self-conscious.

@vaguerant tbh when I made this post I was thinking mostly about men, which is admittedly misogynist, but I don’t think women tend to have this problem, as they generally have a lot of experience with swallowing their pride to make others happy (unfortunately)
@jordyd Yes, encourage them... don't say "I know", say "I agree". Still there's the danger of getting bored with hearing the 'same old thing' and dozing off...
