I have so many questions about evolution

Why do males have nipples but not be able to lactate? Like what possible reason could there be for making sure only half the population can feed infants?

Also, why nose hairs? What are they for, filtering air? Then why don't mouths have them?

Why do we have soft, easily hurt feet if we're supposed to walk barefoot everywhere

@kimdanes Evolution ensures that the fittest survive to breed, not that every aspect of the species makes sense. You can evolve weird stuff and if it doesn’t keep you from surviving to breeding age, maybe you keep it.

@rotatingskull right, but breastfeeding is so very integral to the raising of children that it would make sense, at least to me, that both parents would be able to feed their offspring. That way if one of them died, the other could still raise the child to maturity. But I guess this is less about humans than whatever the world was like for very early mammals.

@kimdanes It would be a lot easier, yes. But all evolution does is select from what has already accidentally evolved and picks the best one to survive. It doesn’t magically make the best imaginable species. If it did that do you think it would have designed us, a species whose main obsessions are tribal warfare and global annihilation?
