If, like me, you've been ignoring Microsoft for a couple decades, this might blow your mind:
All of Office 365 is (almost finished) being completely rewritten in this little scripting language called #JavaScript. And Skype And Microsoft Teams And @Code And all of @MSEdgeDev Debug Protocol (instead of C++) nbd
@deafferret As a non tech person, is this good or bad?
@johny uhh... good I suppose? I've been avoiding Microsoft since NT 4.0 destroyed me in 1997 (WAY too many all nighters rebooting servers).
It mostly blows my mind that JS is being used for local apps (offline Office). Last I knew (up till a week ago) C# was the Microsoft jam. Hard to wrap my head around such a high level language being performant for non-trivial fat client apps.
Live long enough and shit changes, yo. :)
@deafferret I have feeling that everyone shits on Microsoft, thats why I asked. That is not my field of profession, they probably shit for reason. I'm bound to windows, other OS don't support programs that I use for work (civil engineering). I would be happy if I could switch to linux as being open source platform, but seems that might not come soon.
@deafferret My great grandpa and grandma were killed in war, but my grandfather never forgave them. Kudos to your grandfather, forgiving is one though thing to do. As for Windows I hope they get better in future, since lot of software is supported by it.
@johny ya, he could even laugh about it, which always blew my mind. I try to live up to the example he set. Here's part of his oral history: http://jhannah.github.io/jayflaunts/2017/01/28/earl3.html
