I’ve been playing around with Keybase (https://keybase.io) again. While it’s still pretty nerdy in terms of knowledge requirements, they’re doing some interesting stuff with encrypted file sharing.
If you’d like to try it out, I’ve got invitations to share. Just message me your email address.
P.S.
If you believe their “We’re making this simple for everybody!” message and still find yourself confused, you’re not alone. They’re kind of oblivious to that gap right now.
@judges119 agreed. However, their file sharing function built into their native apps is superb!
@jason Maybe it was someone else, but I'd heard they might be getting into the chat/social space as well?
@judges119 it’s there! Chat is a part of their apps, and it works great. Plus, file sharing has a social component in that I can share a file with anyone I know from Twitter, Reddit, etc. When I set up a folder, I can call them up by any of those identities, and they get it.
FTR if we direct message on here and want to find a more private location for baring our souls, I’ll be suggesting Keybase’s chat for its end-to-end encryption, usability, and prettiness.
@jason rjeffries@gmail.com but.. I need to figure out the whole thing as I currently have no keys...
@Ronkjeffries your keys are generated for you as you walk through the process. In fact, each device you connect to your account has its own keys. Keybase does most of the heavy lifting for you, which is its benefit over managing your own keys.
Invitation on the way!
@jason It definitely looks like a step in a more usable direction than PGP/GPG, but it's still got a long way to go before it's ready for lay-person use.
