It was really peaceful and calming. I need to do more of it, especially now. https://octodon.social/media/WQJcDFs6CVO6eTVkmFM https://octodon.social/media/id4KRPj0wHehjf4GGGU
And I spotted these little dudes, which a helpful passing teenage photographer informed me are roughskin newts. https://octodon.social/media/cKOaIuS0TjMNFQG4WZI https://octodon.social/media/6fdHg3bKDSnp4SmgIL8
@Fritillaria2 newt! Roughskin newt, according to forestry signs nearby.
@fobo We have a lot of those here! 😊 🦎
super cool! my s.o. just found a (big!) salamander outside the other day
in other herpetology things, we're totally at the season when you can stake out a pond and watch all of the frogs converge on it, which I haven't done for a couple of years; and there's always the chance you'll run across a snake breeding ball
@mrgah Hah, cool! I'm in the city so don't see these things as often. There were probably 20 or 30 newts within my field of view, just lazily swimming in the sun.
wow, that's crazy, especially in the city!
no, I'm totally in the city atm, too
I just live in the vicarious hope that someone else is living out my childhood dream of being a herpetologist 🐍 🐸
(it was weird to post this from my sportsball account, but whatever)
Anyway, I took an hour to stroll in the woods on a warm spring afternoon. https://octodon.social/media/cvMvOnQQH3sLSlfJdNE
