Foster cat just sniffed my toes.
It's the little things.
@aldersprig That's impressive. Feral cats are a good way to learn patience.
@emily He’s a lot more patient than I am.
But we handle our cats from the first minute they’re inside with us, as much as they’ll tolerate, and we’ve taught all three a few words. (The feral baby knows “nap time, Merit,” and ‘airplane.’) (“Airplane” is when I’m going to lift her up to the stair she eats on because she’s being lazy or doesn’t want to go around the boy cat.)
@aldersprig Oh my gosh, airplane. That is adorable.
@emily *big grin* She’s gotten to the point where she’ll ask for an airplane. (well, use the “ask” miaw) if the boy is already on his lower step.
We have Food Arrangements for cats.
@aldersprig That's beautiful. Our other cats have Food Arrangements too, but nothing that elaborate.
@emily Oli (big boy cat) will eat everything; he eats locked in the bathroom. Theo (Smaller boy cat; Oli’s littermate) likes to graze,, but he also likes to eat Merit’s food. And Merit needs a high place where she’s not being sneaked up on.
@aldersprig Whoops, I deleted my reply to you because I'm still learning my way around Mastodon. But good job keeping all three sorted out and well fed :)
@emily *grin* thank you! And fostering one PLUS having three permanent cats - Wow.
@emily cat fostering is a wonderful thing, thank you for doing it. I can't, partially because I live in an apartment with strict "two pets only" rules and already have two cats (one of whom is Very Bad At Catting and so is easily bullied), and partially because the last time I tried to foster a cat I ended up with a cat who is Very Bad At Catting, but pretty good at catdogging. ^____^
@green I'm so glad I can! Though with three "regular" cats plus foster dude we're totally at capacity. Which will theoretically help prevent foster from becoming permanent...
@emily Oh, yes. Husband tamed a feral barn cat by moving like, 6" closer every day when he fed her outside, and now (4 years later) she sleeps on my hip at night.
