@jeff_terrell I (accidentally) completely submerged it back in January. After drying out, it seemed to work okay, though it did get rather warm the first time, probably because there was still some water in there somewhere.

Anyway, that's my working theory regarding why it's freaking out now. I'm actually grateful it worked for several months after that. It's getting worse and worse though, and it's clearly time for an intervention.
