I've been thinking about this. My conclusions change often, currently fwiw: Recently start ups are more interested in becoming billionaires than fixing the world's problems and vendors push over engineered hw and sw for the sake of the shareholders.
@starbreaker @generica @craigmaloney I think this is also at the root of the problem. I noticed a lot of the shareholder fetishization when I worked at an automotive company. It was almost sickening.

@craigmaloney @generica @starbreaker I guess I can be your contrary data point. I work for a relatively small software development firm. We have a good team, good management, people do like working there and feel appreciated. I'm also proud of the diversity of our staff (including in management positions).
