So who is submitting the first Mastodon paper to CSCW? :joy:
@schoenebeck yeah, I'd like to read such paper. Probably a good set of interviews with the engineers behind the project and admins of popular servers. Let's do it!
@andresmh @schoenebeck @lolkat seems to be doing some pretty deep dives on here; not sure how she is thinking about publication though
@erhardt @andresmh @schoenebeck not enough time for IRB before the CSCW deadline :P
@schoenebeck @andresmh yeah, I started informally interviewing a couple of the devs in November about this, right now a lot of them are overwhelmed with putting out fires, scaling, and talking to popular media.
@andresmh in part it was to start thinking about governance and norms and architectural decisions from the standpoint of spinning up our own instance. Definitely not thinking about this in terms of getting first pub but more of an ethnographic-paricipatory-deep dive.

.@andresmh Honestly, I'd love to see an academic piece analyzing the norms and architectural decisions here as compared to prior attempts and to Twitter. In the spirit of Masto, it seems like it should be written but not with the intent or even outcome of getting the the first publication.
