Is there a way on Windows to change the C:\Users\ account folder without changing the user's name ?

@Siphonay
I've tried and failed in the past. I believe it's not even changeable if you do change the user's name!

But that suggests a solution. Suppose your user name is Fred and your home directory is c:\User\Fred, but you want to make it c:\User\Wilma. Create a new user called Wilma, copy your files over, delete the Fred account, and change the user name to Fred. Directory will remain \Wilma and you've got what you wanted... in theory.

@Siphonay That would probably require severe registry editing, if at all possible... And the way Windows usually behaves after something like that is worse than a folder having the wrong name.

This did the trick, actually! I'm expecting some of my software to be confused about it but it's gonna be pretty easy to fix when I come accross these problems

@Siphonay @etfb A single registry key wasn't what I was expecting. hope it works smoothly... part of me thinks the old user folder will still get created from time to time and be populated by temporary files or appdata.

@Siphonay Only by fucking with Windows before you install it, ISTR.
