I feel like such a noob because the other RVers in this BLM area all have solar panels, some as many as 10 panels. And me? I have none. Instead I'm running a gas generator about 6-8 hours a day just to keep my laptop and hotspot device going.

@SteveJohnson You can start the solar panel habit slowly. I've seen small set-ups available at many stores at a reasonable enough price. Mine came from Harbor Freight. The panels offered now are 100W and comes with everything you need to get started, except storage battery which your RV probably has/had. Any amount of time you don't have to run that generator is good for the environment. Oh, price on those solar panels is about that of 60 gallons of fuel in Indiana.

@PermaLolly The battery is another issue, I have only a single 12 volt. I'm gonna need a couple 6 volt deep cycles, maybe four. I'm figuring at least two 150 watt panels, maybe three. I'm seeing other boondockers around here with 6 to 10 panels.

@SteveJohnson I talked with the guys at NAPA (who knew me well for buying hydraulic lines) and picked up some deep cycle batteries designed for industrial golf carts. If you can manage the one time sunk cost, it should save a lot of gasoline $$ over the next few years.

@PermaLolly I have a plan to get a couple of deep cycle 6 volt batteries. I need a dual battery box too.
