I've been thinking about this. My conclusions change often, currently fwiw: Recently start ups are more interested in becoming billionaires than fixing the world's problems and vendors push over engineered hw and sw for the sake of the shareholders.

My favorite: "You sold what?!?! Not only do we not have that tech currently, but we don't know anyone in the Linux world doing it. We are going to have to create it from scratch....and it has to be ready in a month?"
