some thoughts on "trigger warnings"

I give up. Whatever. If you are so God-awful sensitive that you can't handle a well-within the bounds of normal discussion debate on politics, then there's not much point in anything.

but I will be polite.

@Migukin IMO, if one can't handle that others might need time away from some topics, IME, the sensitive one isn't the person trying to avoid the discussion.

I mean, if you're this upset about your voice being behind a click, imagine if you had to struggle to be heard at all, all the time, every day.

Sometimes you'd want struggle-free time.

It's a request on their part to speak more quietly about a thing. It's reasonable.

Good on you for choosing politeness -- and I mean that.

Whatever happened to just having simple civil discussion? It seems as though some people don't want any discussion at all. That is what bothers me.

@Migukin I'm having a pretty civil discussion (for the most part) about when civil discussion is upsetting for other people, and how civility dictates not taking a dump on them because it irritates you to have to speak more quietly.

So, really, this entire back-and-forth suggests civil discussion's entirely possible.

(I won't get into the "civility points" metric and how it's mired in the SQ, because I wouldn't wish to offend you, frex.)
